(პროფესიული საგანმანათლებლო პროგრამების განხორციელება – პრობლემები და პერსპექტივები)
Introduction and aim: Implementation of vocational education modular programs is one of the priorities of the educational system of Georgia. A significant portion of the structures of these programs is composed of general compulsory modules, which are common for all programs. The confirmation of their results is mandatory for any vocational qualification.
“Personal and Interpersonal Skills” is one of the compulsory modules. Its volume one credit. It is implemented in parallel with another compulsory module “Communication” (5 credits). Both these modules are aimed at developing skills required for the relationships with other people and groups.
The outcomes of the modules in syllabuses are clearly separated: the module “Communication” requires the confirmation of the knowledge of technical aspects, but within the module “Personal and Interpersonal Skills”, an emphasis is placed on the aspect of human relationship, and besides, the recommenced topics are also different. However, coincidences at the level of performance criteria and particular indicators are hard to avoid. There is also a difficulty that the same references are indicated in syllabuses, and other Georgian literature sources are virtually non-existent.
Frequently, it is difficult for implementing personnel to separate some aspects of these two modules that, in some cases, causes situation, when these modules cancel each other out. These problems created the idea of the necessity of integrating these modules that is not devoid of logic. However, in this case, there is a risk that an emphasis will be placed on technical aspect of communication, and not enough attention will be given to significant aspect of personal and interpersonal skills that is unacceptable. It is necessary to get a good understanding of fact that “Personal and Interpersonal skills” is a module, which is mostly oriented toward the formation of values and attitudes that underlies any type of relationship.
Research methodology: The given paper has been performed by an implementer of the module “Personal and Interpersonal Skills”. It is based on personal observations and on the analysis of information obtained as a result of students’ survey.
Results and implications: Regardless of whether these modules are integrated or not, it is necessary to deal with the issue of interrelation of notions “communication” and “interpersonal skills”. Frequently, they are perceived as synonyms, or, in addition, the interpersonal skills are considered as one of the constituent components of communication. However, as more justified seems the approach, according to which, the communication skill becomes one of the component of interpersonal skills.
Conclusion: The development of a new module or further improvement of the already existing modules, must be based on a good understanding of the essential aspects of the problem. Also, it is necessary to carefully study and analyze the existing practice of implementation of these modules. it is necessary to create textbooks adapted to the particular modules. This process must involve the persons really implementing these modules.
