The impact of professional development teaching practices and quality teaching at Higher Education institutions in Kosovo

Introduction and aim: The importance of continuous professional development in higher education is unquestionable. It plays an vital role in endorsing and improving faculty teaching practices. This article aims to provide insight on the importance of professional development workshops offered through the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina”. Furthermore, the paper aims to identify the impact of the faculty teacher training workshops in relation to faculty teaching practices and teaching quality.

Research methodology: Survey instruments were administered to participants’ right after the professional development (faculty teacher training) workshops, questioning the training and trainee quality of the course delivery and the outcome of the course. Furthermore, a semester later ten trained participants were interviewed to try to find out if there were any changes in faculty approaches toward their teaching practices.

Results and implications: The results of the research helped identify the benefits of the training workshops offered by the Center for Teaching Excellence for the academic staff of the Higher Education Instructions in Kosovo. An insight on the quality of training workshops was obtained. Moreover, the results of this study explored different teaching practices among the faculty at Higher Education Institutions, potential gaps in teaching practices, as well as ideas on improving Center for teaching excellence practice with future teacher training workshops.

Conclusion: This research study reflects on the importance of faculty teacher training workshops within the community of Higher Education in Kosovo. Additionally, this study reflects on the positive changes of the faculty approaches toward their teaching practices.
